Description

Crispy and flavorful baked sweet potato fries made with simple seasonings and a touch of oil. These homemade fries are a healthier alternative to traditional fried versions and are perfect as a side dish or snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Sweet Potato Fries

  • 4 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced into thin sticks (approximately 1/4″ x 3″)
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika or chili powder (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons oil (canola or olive oil)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 415°F (210°C). Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with foil or parchment paper. If using foil, lightly coat it with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix Seasonings: In a small bowl, combine the kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika or chili powder if you choose to use it for an extra kick of flavor.
  3. Prepare Fries: Arrange the sweet potato sticks in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, making sure they don’t overlap for even cooking. Drizzle the 2 tablespoons of oil over the fries and evenly sprinkle the seasoning mixture on top.
  4. Bake Fries: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the fries for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, flip the fries carefully using a spatula to promote even crisping. Continue baking for an additional 10 to 15 minutes until the fries are crispy and slightly browned.
  5. Serve: Remove from the oven and serve the baked sweet potato fries hot. They pair wonderfully with your favorite dipping sauces like ketchup, aioli, or spicy mayo.

Notes

  • Cut fries uniformly to ensure even cooking and crispiness.
  • Using parchment paper reduces sticking and makes cleanup easier.
  • For extra crispiness, soak sweet potato sticks in cold water for 30 minutes before baking, then dry thoroughly.
  • You can substitute oil types but avoid using low smoke point oils for baking at high temperatures.
  • If you prefer a spicier version, increase the paprika or add cayenne pepper.
