An easy and flavorful appetizer or snack featuring fresh tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, and balsamic glaze served on toasted bread.

Ingredients

  • 1 French baguette, sliced ½ inch thick
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 large ripe tomatoes, sliced
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic glaze
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Arrange baguette slices on a baking sheet and brush both sides with olive oil.
  3. Toast slices in oven for 8–10 minutes until golden and crisp.
  4. Remove to cool slightly, then top each slice with a tomato slice and mozzarella.
  5. Return to oven for 3–5 minutes until cheese softens but not fully melted.
  6. Top with fresh basil leaves.
  7. Drizzle each slice with balsamic glaze and season with salt and pepper.
  8. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • You can substitute ciabatta or sourdough for the baguette.
  • Make balsamic glaze by simmering ½ cup balsamic vinegar and 1 tablespoon honey until thickened.
  • For a twist, add a thin slice of prosciutto or drizzle pesto.
