Description

Cinnamon Apple Pie Bread Pudding is a cozy, comforting dessert made with chunks of bread soaked in a cinnamon-spiced custard, layered with sweet apple pie filling and baked until golden and tender.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 6 cups day-old bread cubes (French bread or brioche)
  • 1 (21 oz) can apple pie filling
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter, for greasing the dish
  • Powdered sugar or caramel sauce, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter.
  2. Spread half of the bread cubes in the dish, followed by half of the apple pie filling. Repeat with remaining bread and apple filling.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and salt until well combined.
  4. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread and apple layers. Press down gently to help the bread absorb the liquid.
  5. Let sit for 15-20 minutes to allow the custard to soak into the bread.
  6. Bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is golden brown.
  7. Cool slightly before serving. Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with caramel sauce if desired.

Notes

  • Use homemade apple pie filling if preferred.
  • Best with sturdy, day-old bread to absorb custard well.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the fridge and reheated.
