Ingredients

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound Italian sausage (mild or spicy, casings removed)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion (diced)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley or basil (optional for garnish)


Instructions

  1. Brown the Sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil and brown the sausage, breaking it up with a spoon.
  2. Cook the Aromatics: Add the diced onion and cook until softened, then stir in the garlic and cook briefly.
  3. Combine Ingredients: Transfer the sausage mixture to the crock pot. Add remaining ingredients, stir to combine.
  4. Cook: Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.
