Description

These easy apple turnovers are made with flaky puff pastry and a spiced apple filling, perfect for a quick dessert or breakfast treat.

Ingredients

  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp milk (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter and add diced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Cook for about 5–7 minutes until apples are soft.
  3. Stir in flour and cook for another 1–2 minutes to thicken the mixture. Remove from heat and let it cool.
  4. Roll out puff pastry and cut into 4 equal squares.
  5. Spoon the apple filling into the center of each square, fold into triangles, and press edges with a fork to seal.
  6. Beat the egg with milk and brush over the turnovers for a golden finish.
  7. Place turnovers on the baking sheet and bake for 18–20 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

  • You can substitute apples with pears or peaches for variation.
  • Make sure to seal the edges well to prevent filling leakage.
  • These turnovers are best served warm.
