Description
These easy apple turnovers are made with flaky puff pastry and a spiced apple filling, perfect for a quick dessert or breakfast treat.
Ingredients
- 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp milk (for egg wash)
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter and add diced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Cook for about 5–7 minutes until apples are soft.
- Stir in flour and cook for another 1–2 minutes to thicken the mixture. Remove from heat and let it cool.
- Roll out puff pastry and cut into 4 equal squares.
- Spoon the apple filling into the center of each square, fold into triangles, and press edges with a fork to seal.
- Beat the egg with milk and brush over the turnovers for a golden finish.
- Place turnovers on the baking sheet and bake for 18–20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before serving. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
- You can substitute apples with pears or peaches for variation.
- Make sure to seal the edges well to prevent filling leakage.
- These turnovers are best served warm.
