Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (25 oz) jar gluten-free marinara sauce
  • 9 gluten-free lasagna noodles
  • 1 cup dairy-free ricotta or regular ricotta cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded dairy-free mozzarella or regular mozzarella cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and garlic, sauté until fragrant.
  3. Add ground beef or turkey, cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
  4. Stir in marinara sauce, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Cook gluten-free lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  6. In a bowl, mix ricotta (or dairy-free ricotta), egg, and a pinch of salt.
  7. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  8. Layer 3 noodles, 1/3 of the ricotta mixture, 1/3 of the meat sauce, and 1/3 of the mozzarella. Repeat layers twice.
  9. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 15 minutes until bubbly and lightly browned.
  10. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • You can use cooked lentils or plant-based meat as a vegetarian option.
  • Use a nut-based or soy-based cheese alternative for dairy-free version.
  • Letting the lasagna rest before slicing helps it set.
