This easy homemade bread recipe yields a soft, fluffy loaf with a golden crust. Perfect for sandwiches or toast, it requires minimal ingredients and no fancy equipment.
Ingredients
- 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 1/4 cups warm water (110°F)
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil or melted butter
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Add flour, salt, and oil to the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased 9×5 inch loaf pan.
- Cover and let it rise again for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the bread for 30–35 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Remove from the pan and cool on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
- Use bread flour for a chewier texture if desired.
- You can brush the top with butter after baking for a softer crust.
- This bread freezes well; slice before freezing for easy toast access.
