Description

This easy homemade bread recipe yields a soft, fluffy loaf with a golden crust. Perfect for sandwiches or toast, it requires minimal ingredients and no fancy equipment.

Ingredients

  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water (110°F)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil or melted butter

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour, salt, and oil to the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  6. Cover and let it rise again for 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the bread for 30–35 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  8. Remove from the pan and cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

  • Use bread flour for a chewier texture if desired.
  • You can brush the top with butter after baking for a softer crust.
  • This bread freezes well; slice before freezing for easy toast access.
