Description

Egg in a Hole is a simple, classic breakfast dish where an egg is fried in the center of a slice of bread. It’s quick, satisfying, and loved by both kids and adults alike.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 slice of bread (any kind)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: fresh herbs, shredded cheese, or hot sauce for topping

Instructions

  1. Use a round cutter or glass to cut a hole in the center of the bread slice.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium heat and melt the butter.
  3. Place the bread slice (and the cut-out round if desired) in the skillet.
  4. Crack the egg into the center hole.
  5. Cook for 2–3 minutes, then flip carefully and cook another 1–2 minutes, or until egg reaches desired doneness.
  6. Season with salt and pepper, and add any optional toppings before serving.

Notes

  • For runnier yolks, cook less time before flipping.
  • Use whole grain or sourdough bread for more flavor and texture.
  • Serve with fruit or greens for a balanced breakfast.
