Description

Flan de Queso is a rich and creamy baked custard dessert with a delicious twist—cream cheese blended into the flan base for an ultra-smooth texture and a cheesecake-like flavor, topped with golden caramel.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for caramel)
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt sugar until golden and syrupy, swirling the pan to ensure even caramelization. Immediately pour into a round baking dish or flan mold, tilting to coat the bottom. Let harden.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  3. In a blender, combine sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, cream cheese, and vanilla extract. Blend until smooth and creamy.
  4. Pour the mixture over the set caramel in the mold.
  5. Place the flan dish into a larger baking pan and fill the outer pan with hot water to create a water bath.
  6. Bake for 60–70 minutes, or until the center is set but slightly jiggly.
  7. Remove from oven and let cool in the water bath. Then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  8. To serve, run a knife around the edges and invert onto a serving plate so the caramel flows over the flan.

Notes

  • Use room temperature cream cheese to avoid lumps in the custard.
  • Chilling overnight helps the flan firm up and enhances the flavor.
  • Strain the mixture before baking for an extra smooth texture.
