Description

These fluffy and delicious homemade biscuits are light, buttery, and perfect for any occasion. With a golden crust and soft, airy inside, they make a great addition to any meal.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda, and sugar.
  3. Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Stir gently with a spoon until just combined (do not overmix).
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it about 4-5 times. Be careful not to overwork the dough.
  6. Roll out the dough to about 1-inch thickness and cut out biscuits using a round cutter.
  7. Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
  8. Remove from the oven and allow the biscuits to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Make sure to use cold butter for the best texture.
  • If you don’t have buttermilk, you can use regular milk with a teaspoon of vinegar or lemon juice to make a buttermilk substitute.
  • These biscuits are best served warm with butter or jam.
