Description

Rich and indulgent German Chocolate Cookie Bars layered with chocolate chip cookie dough, gooey coconut-pecan topping, and a chocolate drizzle for the perfect dessert treat.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for topping)
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (for topping)
  • 1 1/3 cups sweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for topping)
  • 1/2 cup melted chocolate for drizzle (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy.
  3. Add eggs and vanilla extract and beat until combined.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until incorporated.
  6. Stir in chocolate chips.
  7. Spread two-thirds of the cookie dough evenly into the prepared pan. Set aside the remaining dough.
  8. In a medium saucepan, combine evaporated milk, sugar, egg yolks, and butter. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened, about 10-12 minutes.
  9. Remove from heat and stir in coconut, pecans, and vanilla extract.
  10. Pour coconut-pecan mixture over the cookie dough layer in the pan and spread evenly.
  11. Drop spoonfuls of the remaining cookie dough on top of the coconut layer.
  12. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until golden brown and set.
  13. Cool completely in the pan. Drizzle with melted chocolate if desired, then cut into bars and serve.

Notes

  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
  • Chill in the fridge for firmer bars and easier slicing.
  • Use dark chocolate chips for a richer flavor.
