Description

Grilled Chicken Souvlaki is a classic Greek dish featuring tender, marinated chicken skewers grilled to perfection. Bursting with Mediterranean flavors from garlic, lemon, and oregano, it’s perfect served with pita, tzatziki, and fresh vegetables.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • Wooden or metal skewers

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  2. Add chicken pieces to the marinade, toss to coat, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably up to 4 hours.
  3. If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 30 minutes before grilling.
  4. Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Thread marinated chicken onto skewers.
  5. Grill chicken skewers for 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until fully cooked and nicely charred.
  6. Serve hot with warm pita, tzatziki sauce, and fresh salad or grilled vegetables.

Notes

  • Marinate longer for more flavor depth.
  • Chicken thighs tend to stay juicier on the grill than breasts.
  • Can also be cooked on a stovetop grill pan or under the broiler.
