Description

A creamy and indulgent homemade pudding made with rich dulce de leche, perfect for a sweet treat or elegant dessert.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 3/4 cups whole milk
  • 3/4 cup dulce de leche
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Whipped cream, for serving (optional)
  • Grated chocolate or caramel sauce, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together sugar, cornstarch, and salt.
  2. Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth and combined.
  3. Add dulce de leche and place the pan over medium heat, stirring constantly.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk egg yolks. Once the milk mixture is hot but not boiling, slowly whisk about 1/2 cup into the yolks to temper them.
  5. Slowly pour the tempered yolks back into the saucepan, whisking constantly.
  6. Continue to cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and starts to bubble, about 5-7 minutes.
  7. Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla extract until smooth.
  8. Pour pudding into individual serving dishes and press plastic wrap directly onto the surface to prevent a skin from forming.
  9. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until fully chilled.
  10. Top with whipped cream and garnish with grated chocolate or caramel sauce before serving, if desired.

Notes

  • Use high-quality dulce de leche for best flavor.
  • Can be made a day ahead and stored in the fridge.
  • For a firmer texture, let it chill overnight.
