Description

A sweet and fruity homemade strawberry jam made with fresh strawberries, perfect for spreading on toast or adding to desserts.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 4 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and mashed
  • 4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the mashed strawberries and sugar. Mix well and let sit for 1 hour.
  2. Transfer the mixture to a large saucepan and add the lemon juice.
  3. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly.
  4. Reduce heat and simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring frequently, until the jam thickens.
  5. Test the jam’s consistency by placing a spoonful on a chilled plate. If it wrinkles when pushed with a finger, it’s ready.
  6. Remove from heat and let sit for 5 minutes. Skim off any foam if necessary.
  7. Pour the hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving 1/4 inch of headspace. Seal immediately.
  8. Process jars in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes for longer shelf life.

Notes

  • Use ripe, fresh strawberries for the best flavor.
  • The jam will thicken more as it cools.
  • Store unopened jars in a cool, dark place. Refrigerate after opening.
