Ingredients
Dry Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
Additional Ingredients:
- 4 tablespoons cold unsalted butter (cubed)
- ¾ cup buttermilk
- 1 large egg
- ½ cup raisins or currants
- 1 teaspoon caraway seeds (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Add Butter: Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Combine Wet and Dry: Stir in the raisins and caraway seeds. In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and egg. Add the wet ingredients to the dry and stir until a soft dough forms.
- Shape and Bake: Turn the dough onto a floured surface, knead gently, pat into a circle, cut into wedges, and place on the baking sheet. Bake for 15–18 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool and Serve: Cool on a wire rack before serving.
