Description

Jalapeño Poppers are spicy, cheesy appetizers made by stuffing jalapeño peppers with a creamy cheese filling and baking or frying them until golden and bubbly.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 12 fresh jalapeño peppers
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 12 slices of bacon (optional)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional, for baked version)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (if baking with breadcrumbs)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) or heat oil for frying if using that method.
  2. Cut jalapeños in half lengthwise and remove seeds and membranes.
  3. In a bowl, mix cream cheese, cheddar cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Stuff each jalapeño half with the cheese mixture.
  5. Optional: Wrap each filled jalapeño with a slice of bacon or sprinkle with breadcrumbs mixed with olive oil.
  6. Place poppers on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes until cheese is bubbly and tops are golden. For frying, cook in hot oil for 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Use gloves when handling jalapeños to avoid skin irritation.
  • For less heat, soak jalapeños in cold water for 30 minutes after removing seeds.
  • Can be made ahead and stored in the fridge before baking.
