Description
School Pizza is a nostalgic, rectangular-shaped pizza reminiscent of classic school cafeteria lunches, known for its thick pourable crust and simple, comforting flavors.
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp shortening
- 1.5 tbsp cornmeal
- 1 packet (0.25 oz) instant yeast
- 1 2/3 cups warm water
- 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup instant non-fat dry milk
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1.5 tsp vegetable oil
- 1 1/4 cups pizza sauce
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Optional: cooked ground beef, sausage, sliced onions, bell peppers, mushrooms
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C). Grease a half-sheet baking pan with shortening and sprinkle with cornmeal.
- In a bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let it sit for 4–5 minutes until foamy.
- Add flour, dry milk, sugar, salt, and oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a smooth, pourable dough forms.
- Pour and spread the dough evenly in the prepared pan. Let it rise for 20 minutes.
- Par-bake the crust for 10 minutes, then remove from oven.
- Spread pizza sauce evenly over the crust, add desired toppings, and sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
- Return to the oven and bake for 10–15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly with golden spots.
- Let cool slightly, slice into rectangles, and serve.
Notes
- For a meat-free version, skip the optional meat toppings.
- The dough will be more like batter—spread it with a spatula for even thickness.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated in the oven or microwave.
- Great for meal prepping or feeding a crowd.
