- 1 box chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients to prepare)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/3 cup evaporated milk
- 1 (14 oz) bag caramels, unwrapped
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped pecans
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- Prepare cake mix according to package instructions.
- Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared pan and bake for 15 minutes.
- While the first layer bakes, melt caramels with butter and evaporated milk in a saucepan over low heat, stirring until smooth.
- Remove cake from oven and pour the caramel mixture evenly over the baked layer.
- Sprinkle chocolate chips and chopped pecans over the caramel.
- Carefully spread the remaining cake batter over the top.
- Bake for an additional 20–25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool slightly before serving. Serve warm or at room temperature.
